Tinfoil is the most versatile of all food wrapping materials, it can withstand both heat and cold.  And it's shiny, but only on one side.

Why Is Tinfoil Only Shiny On One Side?

Toward the end of the rolling process, the foil becomes so thin that they ensure a uniform thickness by stacking two rolls together for the final pass through the rolling mill.

This is why tinfoil is shiny on one side and matte on the other -- the sides that touch the rollers are polished, while the two foil sides that roll through together remain unpolished.

TINFOIL IS FUN!
Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil is my favorite brand of tinfoil, it was first introduced in 1947. Since that time it has become one of the most immediately identifiable brands on the market. Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil is 98.5% aluminum. The balance is primarily iron and silicon. These are added to give the strength and puncture resistance obtained only in the alloy used in Reynolds household foil.

Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil contains no recycled material and complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements for direct contact with food.

Some Thoughts About Tinfoil:

The CIA is listening to your room conversations everytime you run your microwave oven by listening to the modulation which comes from sound striking the oven door. They have an orbiting satellite tuned to the microwave oven freq and a lensing system as good as their orbital optical systems. So wear your tinfoil hat or they will be able to listen to your brainwaves too as well as put sounds into your head and make you transmit without a license. Single men who subsist on frozen dinners and reheated pizza are easy targets, so our takeover of the sf field is well ahead of schedule. Rush Limbaugh, unfortunately, wears a tinfoil hat.

Chewing On Tinfoil Can Kill Germs

If you have braces or fillings, you know that chewing on tin foil can be quite a shock – but it may do some good. A study by the Hungarian Dental University of Gyor shows that tin foil-induced electrical charges can actually help kill germs in your mouth. Researcher Miklos Gombkoto says silver or gold fillings interact with the tin foil to create an electrical charge that may help kill many of the germs that cause bad breath. The month-long study involved 20 Hungarian college students who were paid $75 to chew tin foil for 30 seconds three times a day. Although the findings are only preliminary, Gombkoto says evidence suggests that in the future, tin foil may be as widely used as dental floss.

Will Ice Melt Faster In A Dish, Tinfoil, Or A Plastic Bag?

My results show that it melts fastest in a dish, and lasts longest in a plastic bag. The tinfoil results are all over the board - I think because I handle it so much as I am looking to see if it is melted yet. Does it have to do with the plastic holding the coldness in?  Think about this and tell me what you've come up with.

Is There Anything You Can't Do With Tinfoil?

Yes, I never thought there was until I wrapped an apple in tinfoil and stuck a firework into the apple.  It blew a hole right through the tinfoil.  So my advice is don't blow up tinfoil or it will become defective.
